Apollo, the god of Music
In Greek mythology there are many gods and goddesses, but one is far more interesting, rising above the rest. Apollo, the god of music. He was born on the beautiful rocky island of Delos by his mother Leto, and father Zeus. Leto traveled all over the world looking for a proper birthplace for her son. Zeus‘ other wife Hera was extremely jealous when she got pregnant that she ran to find her but Delos was the only suitable safe place to have her twins on earth. He was born with his twin sister Artemis, the goddess of hunting and protector of women.
Apollo was also thought to be the most beautiful of gods. He was a brilliant archer and runner shooting with his silver bow. He was considered to be the first winner of the Olympic Games.
Apollo can easily be one of the most important gods in Greek mythology too. There’s lots of stories about Apollo as a Greek mythology too, seven was Apollos holy number, and he was connected to the calendar the wolves and the dolphins. He was also the director of the Muses and playing his Lyre everywhere he went.
Apollo was never married but had flings having many children. The divine singer
Orpheus and Asklepios, god of healing, are the most famous of Apollo's children. Apollo, being angry of women’s rejection would punish the women who wouldn’t feel the same way as he did. Cassandra was cursed til the far future of belief. Daphne, his first love, became a tree to end her feelings towards him and he left princess Creusa and their child. Apollo loved both men and women, in the story of Hyacinthos, Apollo accidentally kills his young lover.
Apollo was also known as a healer, and as a healer, he tought people the importance of being clean. He is the father of Asclepios, the god of medicine. Apollo was the sender of the plague. His wrath hurt the Greeks when he fired his arrows of the disease at the Greeks camp during the Trojan war.
Apollo had lots of different symbols. One very popular was the lyre which is a type of musical instrument, the bow and the sun itself were among the lyre, the tripod was a main symbol from his prophetic powers.
Apollo's first achievement was to ride Pytho, a beast whos cave was by the Castalian Spring. Apollo killed Python with his bow and arrows. After that journey, Apollo came across Zeus’ father Coronis who fell in love with Ischys, soon a bird told Apollo of the affair. Ischys was already pregnant from Apollo so he sent Artemis to kill Coronis, and Artemis listened to her brother. While Ischys body was burning, Apollo took the unborn child, and gave him to Chiron, who raised the child. Apollo was not an angry god but he had his moments. When the battle of Troy ended a group known as the Akhains insulted Apollo’s priest Khryses and he became very mad so he killed Phrontis and it made a big delay on there way back home. This halt was the first stage of Agamemnons murderer who was unhurt for seven years which did not make Apollo happy.
After Apollo killed Rhexenor his wife Arete soon married Alkihoos. This was good for Odysseus because Rhexenors death brought peace and love to the Phaiakians and there Royalty. Apollos leadership is still rewarded to this day influencing so many people to this day.
